Neighborhood parking
Street parking in The Loop fills fast. Compare nearby garages and lots, see prices for your dates, and book ahead with a trusted provider.
Check parking availabilityThe Loop is Chicago's downtown core — the financial district, City Hall, the Theater District, and Millennium Park all sit inside it. On weekdays the parking market is driven by office workers, which makes it the most expensive place in the city to park between roughly 7 AM and 6 PM. Arrive at 10 AM on a Tuesday and you will pay the maximum daily rate at most garages.
The flip side is that the Loop empties dramatically after business hours. The same garages that charge premium daily maximums at midday drop to much cheaper evening and weekend rates, and street availability opens up. If your visit is cultural — a show, the Art Institute, dinner — the Loop is far friendlier at night than its daytime prices suggest.
Weekday daytime garage rates in the Loop commonly run $30–$50 for the day. Early-bird deals are the main way around it: park before 9 or 9:30 AM and stay until early evening, and the same spot often costs $18–$28. Evenings after 6 PM and weekends drop sharply — expect flat rates in the $10–$20 range at many garages, and always check the posted evening maximum before taking a ticket.
One Loop-specific tip: garages on the fringes — near the river, west toward Clinton, or south near Grant Park — undercut the State Street and Michigan Avenue cores while staying a five-minute walk from everything.
Frankly, the Loop is the one Chicago neighborhood where a car is often more trouble than it is worth. Every CTA 'L' line loops through the district, Metra's terminals feed directly into it, and Millennium Park, the Art Institute, and the Theater District are all within walking distance of each other.
If you are coming from a suburb, park-and-ride at a CTA or Metra station can cut your cost from $40 to a few dollars. Reserve a spot in advance if you must drive — it turns an unpredictable $50 into a fixed, usually lower number.
